Enabling Kompass insights and solutions

Article summary

This topic explains how Kompass insights, Spot management, and Headroom reduction are enabled in your K8s environment.

Enabling is a 2-step process:

  1. Enable visibility with the K8s agent (“Agent”)

When the Agent is installed, Kompass shows K8s cluster and workload insights: costs, scaling performance, workload usage, and pattern history. In addition, Kompass can make recommendations for your environment.

    • Grant Zesty IAM access with read-only permissions.

    • Create a Kompass-compatible CUR and integrate it with Zesty

This is optional, but without a CUR, the cost and saving data presented will be estimated.

    • Install the K8s Agent in the cluster.

These steps are done during the user onboarding. For more information, contact your Zesty representative.
After the visibility agent is installed, Kompass insights and recommendations are displayed immediately. For more meaningful data, the Agent needs to collect data for 7+ days.

  2. Enable automation with the K8s Scaler agent (“Scaler”)

The Scaler enables HiberScale, the power behind the Spot management and Headroom reduction solutions.

The visibility Agent must be installed in the cluster before installing the Scaler.

The Scaler is installed using the qubexctl utility.

The Agent and Scaler are installed in each cluster that you want to optimize.
