When using a single EBS, your application performance is limited by the EBS settings, such as 125MB/s and 3000 IOPS. In contrast, Zesty Disk combines multiple EBS volumes (typically 3-5 in a steady state), thus increasing performance by a factor of 3 to 5 for the same cost.
