Onboard an AWS Management account for Kompass

The Zesty Kompass platform leverages several AWS services including CUR (Cost and Usage Report), Athena, and S3, to analyze EKS costs.

This guide lists the best practice way to configure and integrate the necessary inputs on your AWS Management account (formerly, the Master Payer account).

Following these steps ensures that Kompass receives and displays costs and savings that accurately reflect your AWS discounts such as Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and other applicable reductions.

Allow time for processing

After completing the first step, AWS processing may take up to 24 hours before you can proceed to the next step.

Prerequisites

This section lists all prerequisites. Each step indicates which specific ones are required.

  • Access to Zesty platform

  • Access to the relevant cluster

  • Access to AWS Management account, including ability to:

    • Run CloudFormation.

    • Create IAM role.

    • Create and access the CUR.

    • Edit cost allocation tags.

    • Configure Athena.

    • Create S3 buckets.

To onboard, perform these procedures:

  1. Configure AWS CUR for Kompass integration

  2. Configure Amazon Athena for Kompass

  3. Integrate and onboard an AWS account with Zesty

  4. Install the Kompass Insights agent
