Set up an EMR cluster

Article summary

This topic describes how to set up an EMR compatible to be compatible with Zesty Disk.

To maintain compatibility with Zesty Disk, you must set up your EMR clusters differently than normal.

In the typical EMR cluster setup, because of the need for an additional volume to function correctly, the volume is normally partitioned into /emr for your EMR application and /mnt for any data. This is not compatible with Zesty Disk shrink or extend operations.

To set up the EMR cluster, follow these guidelines:

  • Create the EMR cluster with /emr and /mnt on separate devices.

  • The /emr device should be configured to be as small as possible.
This device will not be managed by Zesty, so any unused capacity on this device will remain unused.

  • The recommended beginning device size for /mnt is 25GB.
This device will be managed by Zesty and will automatically be extended and shrunk to best suit your needs.
