Commitment Manager details

This topic describes how to use Zesty Commitment Manager to see savings, utilization details, and commitment portfolio.

Prerequisites

To show actual savings:

  • From the Zesty platform main menu, select Commitment Manager.

Savings are shown in the Commitment Manager dashboard:

On the Dashboard tab, you can see data related to savings achieved by covering On-Demand costs with commitments.

By default, all the data shown is from the last 30 days. You can select a different date range which will apply to all the charts.

Tip: When you hover displayed data, more detail is shown.

Data delivery information

  • Due to AWS CUR delays, data that includes a previous month will be final only after the 7th of the current month, and the last 48 hours of data are not included in any data shown.

  • For Azure, data is updated every 24 hours based on Azure data availability.

The graphs show the following data:

Description

Graph options

Cost over time

  • Total On-Demand cost: This is the calculated compute cost if no workloads were covered by commitments (all at the On-Demand cost).

  • Effective compute cost: This is the actual spend (should match your CSP bill).

  • Savings: This is the total saved by covering workloads with commitments, both those that Zesty manages and those that are self-managed. For the breakdown of the source of the savings, see the Coverage type breakdown graph.

You can alternate the view between a bar chart and a line chart and also aggregate the data by day, week, or month.

Coverage over time

Shows the daily average of compute workloads covered by commitments. You can see the data based on a 30-day steady state of usage (stable, ongoing demand, without noise from short-term peaks) or based on total usage (including temporary demand fluctuations).

Coverage type breakdown

Shows the On-Demand equivalent cost that is covered or not covered.

You can select which commitments to view as well as to alternate the view between a bar chart and a line chart.

Savings Plans utilization (Azure only)

Shows the used Savings Plans and total Savings Plans. A difference indicates unused Savings Plans.

Average coverage ratio (AWS only)

Shows the ratio of commitments (out of all the current usage, not the steady state) that is covered, as well as the share of the commitments that are responsible for the coverage.

Platform cost breakdown
(AWS only)

Shows the costs incurred per platform/OS.

Savings breakdown

(AWS only)

Shows from where savings are derived: Customer (self-managed) savings and Managed (Zesty-managed) savings

On the Virtual Machines tab, you can see details about the running VMs as well as current commitments (RI and SP).

Virtual Machines details

You can see details about the running virtual machines in the Virtual machine table. The table shows the monthly cost and coverage, together with details about the running VMs.

To see virtual machine details:

  • From the Commitment Manager page, click Virtual Machines.
The Virtual machines table is displayed.

By default, the table is grouped by subscription. To see the details grouped by resource group, region, or family size, click that grouping option.

A +<number> after a value indicates that the item includes additional values in that column (for example, multiple resource groups, regions, or family sizes):

Commitment details

You can see details about all current commitments, both SP purchased by Zesty and SP or RI that were self-purchased, in the Commitments table.

One of the details shown is the commitment scope. Zesty-purchased commitments use shared scope, so they can be applied across eligible subscriptions.

In the End date column, the icon indicates that the commitment is ending within the next 30 days.

To see commitment details:

  • From the Virtual Machines tab, click View commitments.
    The Commitments table is displayed.
