Frequently Asked Questions

Commitment Manager

What permissions are required to activate?

To fully activate Commitment Manager a number of permissions will need to be added to the IAM role created for the POC and Potential Savings Report. Most notably, this means adding permissions empowering Zesty to interact with the RI Marketplace on your behalf. This includes permissions to create listings as well as buy and sell on the RI Marketplace.

Can we use Zesty if we have an SCP in place?

In most situations, Zesty products can work if you have an SCP in place. Because of the number of different ways in which Service Control Policies can be set up and configured, we would need to review the specific policies implemented on your infrastructure to determine how we can best work with you and some custom configuration may be required.

Why is root user access needed for onboarding?

AWS requires root user access to amend or create bank details, which is a necessary part of registering to the RI Marketplace. Without this registration, Zesty is unable to buy or sell Reserved Instances on your behalf to cover your workloads. Please note that this is done through a separate AWS portal and not through the AWS Management Console. This is completely separate to your AWS billing account.

Do I need to commit for a set period of time?

You do not need to commit upfront to a specific period of time when signing a contract with Zesty for Commitment Manager, however we do require 30 day's written notice prior to cancellation.

Zesty Disk

Can I limit the maximum filesystem size?

Yes, you can limit the maximum filesystem size by configuring a Zesty Disk policy and attach that policy to your instances.

How does auto-scaling impact application performance?

After implementing Zesty Disk, auto scaling typically results in a measurable increase in IOPS. There is no negative impact on the instance or application when using Zesty Disk.

How much capacity does Zesty Disk add?

The Zesty Disk machine learning learns your usage patterns and, based on these trends, determines how much additional storage capacity is needed. Typically, the first extension is about 10-15% of the original filesystem size, though this will be higher if your filesystem capacity is being filled with data more quickly.

What Data Does Zesty Collect?

Zesty collects only the metadata specified by the IAM role needed to connect your organization to the Zesty platform. If you disconnect from the Zesty platform at any point, whether at the POC or post-activation stage, Zesty does not maintain any record of your information.
